Elizabeth S, a dedicated National Honor Society (NHS) member at Stanley High School, recently completed an extraordinary service project titled The Power of a Dream (El Poder de un SueƱo). Her initiative focused on empowering elementary English Language Learners (ELLs) by fostering confidence in their bilingual abilities and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.
Elizabeth worked closely with a group of young ELL students to create dream jars, a symbolic and creative activity that allowed them to visualize their future aspirations. Following this, the students had the unique opportunity to visit a local business, where they practiced their English skills by ordering ice cream in a real-world setting.
"I want to serve as an inspiration to younger students that they CAN achieve their dreams," she shared, reflecting on the impact of her project. Her enthusiasm and leadership provided the younger students with both encouragement and practical experience in using their bilingual skills.
A generous donation from CSW made the field trip possible, allowing the students to enjoy a rewarding and educational experience outside the classroom.
"I planted a seed in their hearts to believe in their dreams and view their bilingual skills as a superpower," Elizabeth said. Her project not only built confidence in the young students but also highlighted the value of being bilingual in today's world.
Through her efforts, Elizabeth has demonstrated the true spirit of the National Honor Societyāleadership, service, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. Her project serves as a shining example of how students can inspire and uplift their communities.
