March FFA Meeting
Next week Stanley High School will begin taking the North Dakota State Assessment (NDSA)! Our 10th graders will test on Monday, March 13, 14, and 15. Our 7th and 8th graders will test Tuesday, March 21, 22, and 23. Mrs. Sorenson has been in meeting with 10th grade this week and we are excited to work hard on the NDSA. Students were given their previous NDSA results. If you would like to see them, your child can bring them home or you can email me at Sarah.Sorenson@k12.nd.us for a copy. I will meet with 7th and 8th grade on March 20 to hand out last year's scores and set goals for this year's testing. By working together, we can make this experience full of growth and success. Please make sure that your child gets enough sleep, eats a healthy breakfast at home or at school, arrives to school on time and encourage them to try their best. We will have headphones on hand for students to use, but they are encouraged to bring their own headphones to use for testing.

MWEC would like to sponsor high school students interested in exploring the Lineman career. MWEC wanted to share with you an exciting opportunity for our kids to participate in an elective program Bismarck High School is putting together for students this summer. It is open to students going into their Sophomore, Junior and Senior year of high school. We would like to open this opportunity for all community members in Williams and Mountrail County, however, if there is more interest than spots available, preference will be given to students serviced by MWEC. The only cost to the student is a ride to and from Bismarck. All other expenses room, board, meals and classes will be paid for by the cooperative. Unfortunately, we have a very quick deadline of March 27, 2023. Please contact to sign-up or if you have any questions. Dubi Cummings, MBA, MMgt Manager PR/Communications Mountrail Williams Electric Cooperative Email: dubic@mwec.com Office: 701.774.7147 For a full itinerary of the program, please email Sarah.Sorenson@k12.nd.us and I will email you the attachment.

🏀 It’s basketball season and time to review math facts in Mrs. Stafslien’s class! Why not combine them for “MATHketball!” 🏀 Students worked on several key skills: - teamwork - collaboration - computation of facts - problem solving - shooting form - NOT hitting their teacher in the face 🥽😁

Today Mr. Hellman’s 4th graders learned how to use an ancient tool: encyclopedias! The class discussed life before the internet and how their old teacher used to do research projects. The class then had an opportunity to look through Mr. Hellman’s sets and find information on a variety of subjects. I think they are hooked on “the old way!”

Your scientists have been doing lots of learning! Biologists (10th) have been following a Homeostasis storyline and learning about balance from ecosystems to eventually cells. Pictured they're learning about ocean acidification and its affects on marine life. Human A&P are currently learning about action potentials in neurons and neuron communication in order to understand disorders when things do go wrong. Entomologist (study of insects) have been learning about the diversity of insects. We're now focusing on insect anatomy and exploring with our new mealworm friends! 7th grade science have been learning about how molecules can travel through our bodies, how homeostatic imbalances in one system leads to symptoms in other systems. They're learning about the importance of cellular respiration and energy. Pictured is us proving with an indicator for CO2 (bromothymol blue) that we really do exhale carbon dioxide! One of my goals is that if you state a claim, then we have back it up with evidence! We collect data, we analyze, we argue (gosh! you should hear them argue! It's amazing 🤩), we conclude. This has been an awesome year, I love working with all these Blue Jay Scientists! #bluejays #scientists #esslerscience
