Stanley Elementary School held their first ever Battle of the Books competition this week. Battle of the Books is a reading competition involving teams of three to four students. Each grade level division had 10 books designated for the teams to read. The teams “battled” by answering comprehension questions about the books using Kahoot. The top two teams from each division qualify to compete in the regional competition in Williston on March 1st.
The top team in the 3rd/4th grade division was the Super Readers consisting of Molly Hamilton, Sierrah Kanenwisher, and Brooklyn Hedtke. The 5th/6th grade division was won by the Cheesepuffs. Team members are Derrick Hager, Lucas Song, and Kaylynn Desjarlais. Annie Roise, Ashley Walter, Ashley Ellis, and Rebecca Littlefield will be representing Stanley in the 7th/8th grade division. Other students that will be representing Stanley at the regional competition include: Connor Gustavson, Isaak Longmuir, Teegan Blankenship, Payton Lystad, River Nardacci, Savannah Swensrud, and Colter Fladeland.
All participants received a free book. The winning teams received prizes sponsored by Subway and the Stanley Elementary School library.

Recently, Stanley Junior High teachers and administration met to discuss behaviors that are disruptive to the learning environment. Behaviors in school are escalating, and we are making a concerted effort to keep our school safe. We need our classrooms to be a productive place for the education of all students.
Specifically, we have seen an increase in students using racial slurs, being disrespectful to teachers and peers, using unkind words, blurting out in class, coming unprepared for class, and being tardy.
We are focusing even more attention on eliminating these behaviors by teaching students how to respect one another, solve problems together, be prepared for class, and not allowing their behaviors to impact the learning of others.
If a student earns 2 or more log entries for any of the behaviors mentioned above, a call will go home. Students will be given a behavior chart to monitor their behaviors in class. The teacher will fill out a rating scale for their behavior that hour. Students utilizing a behavior chart will spend their lunch time working with administration and the school counselor to learn how their behavior is impacting the learning environment and what they need to do to improve their interaction with others. This time will be called Lunch Academy. Students can earn their way out of the Lunch Academy by demonstrating positive behavior in class. If behaviors reoccur, a parent meeting will be called.
We ask that you speak with your children about classroom and school expectations. We thank you for you cooperation and support as we work to make our school productive and safe for all.

Mrs. Stafslien’s class got to share some LOVE today! ❤️
We delivered Valentine cards, chocolates, and roses to the residents at Rosen Place Assisted Living. What a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! 🍫🌹
