While Mountrail County continues to be in the orange designation, we will be restricting attendance to reserved tickets only. Two reserved passes will be given to each participant and general admission will not be allowed. These restrictions will apply to both volleyball and football. NDHSAA also released post-season guidelines today so click on the link for further details. Districts and Regional tournaments for VB will be played at the home court of the higher seed instead of a specific host site. Also, pay special attention to the mask requirements for post season events.

As you have probably heard, Governor Burgum has downgraded the designation of Mountrail County from yellow to orange. The Governor and the ND Healthy Return to Learning Committee made clear that the county colors are specific to large gatherings and businesses and not meant for schools to alter the instructional model they are using.
We are required to report each individual associated with the school (student and/or staff member) who tests positive for COVID-19. So far, since we have had to start reporting information to the state (which was in early August before school started), we have had to report 14 positive cases associated with the school. Of those 14 cases, 7 were not in the school during their infectious period either because it was prior to us being in school or because they were out of the school for other reasons. Of the 7 cases that were in our buildings during their infectious period, six (6) were deemed to have close contacts and one had no close contacts. From these cases we had a total of 101 student close contacts identified and 9 staff close contacts. All close contacts were quarantined for 14 days from their last exposure to the positive case. Of our 110 total close contacts, 1 has ended up testing positive. So, only 0.9% of close contacts in our school have tested positive. From the data tracked in North Dakota it has been found that about 1% of close contacts in schools have tested positive and, as you can see, we are experiencing about the same in our school.
So, though the county level designation has changed, at this time we aren't making a change to our instructional model. However, there may be some changes to the number of people allowed at school events (sports and other activities) and more limitations placed on visitors in the buildings and use of the building by outside groups.
Last, but not least, it is strongly recommended that everyone in the school wear a mask. Wearing a mask will help cut down on the number of people required to be sent home as close contacts. As you have probably heard, if both the positive individual and anyone who would normally be considered a close contact are wearing masks, only the positive individual will have to isolate. Those who would be otherwise be considered close contacts would not have to quarantine, they would just have to continue to wear a mask and self-monitor for symptoms. So, please do consider wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible.

Parents of students in grades 7-12, eligibility for activities comes out every Wednesday. Please use this time to check your child's grades on Powerschool. If you do not have your Powerschool login, please call the school for assistance. Thank you.

Tomorrow (Thursday, 15th) we’ll be wearing pajamas for a $1 donation to help Denise Sundean with her medical expenses. Friday we’ll have hat day for a $1 donation. 💙
Our continued prayers go out to Denise and her family.

Please remember that our distance learning option is for students who need to be home for an extended period of time due to quarantining or isolating. This is not for students to come and go at will. When your elementary aged child needs to distance learn, please let the classroom teacher know a day ahead of time. This gives the teachers time to get materials together and time for you to pick up materials for the students. When your junior high/high school aged child needs to learn from home, please call the office so we can alert the teachers for attendance taking purposes. Thank you.

Daily Day-maker Movement Week One: #madeyousmile
Don’t get so absorbed with your own life that you fail to look up. When we intentionally
look up - notice - act, we are given the opportunity to be necessary to someone - to be their blessing, to be there day-maker. When we choose to live our lives from that lens, we become bigger on the inside, which makes us better on the outside.
Let’s intentionally create a ripple effect that lifts hearts.
Scattered all over Stanley this week will be “made you smile” gifts for the person finding it and for that person to share. The Stanley Rec and the Mountrail Country Health Foundation will kick off the week. Each class in the elementary and high school will be working together to scatter the smiles as the week progresses.
Nobody will really remember anything about you except the imprint you choose to make on them.
Intentionally Look Up...Notice....Act.
One simple act can change the tone of someone’s day, or even life.

Essler's 7th Life Science launched into the Characteristics of Life today with a little prank. Introduced them to Sewer Lice. They observed and came up with reasons why they're living. They got so excited/disgusted that they went to Google and that's when they figured it out! #igotthemhooked
*Sewer Lice are just swollen raisins in Squirt, the carbonation moved the raisins around. So, is moving really a characteristic of life...?

A message from the Music Department:
Unfortunately, due to covid-19 and the aerosol studies that were put out by the University of Colorado Boulder, the Music Department and Administration for Stanley Public Schools have sadly decided to postpone the planning of Fall/Winter concerts until Spring Semester. We've exhausted all possibilities for alternatives, and this is the conclusion we've come to. We will be posting a Music Department video later this semester to show the community all that we are currently working on in the classroom in the place of regular concert music. We are so happy that we are a part of such a supportive, patient, positive, and kind community - we excitedly await the day that we can get back to normal music activities.
If you'd like to read more about the aerosol study, here is a link: https://www.nfhs.org/media/4119369/aerosol-study-prelim-results-round-2-final-updated.pdf.
