As we prepare to wrap up our school year, please take a look at the following schedule for next week. All junior high students will take final tests. Students in grades 9 -12 may be exempted based on the following criteria:
Students will be obligated to take final exams if the teacher requires them to do so, if not the following
exemption policy may be followed:
Average for year Absences from class
A - 4 absences
B - 3 absences
C - 2 absences
Anyone with a D or lower average or more than 4 absences of any kind for that class will be required to take the
final test. Students will have the choice to take the final if they are exempt, upon approval of the teacher.
Teachers have the prerogative to make their individual policy more stringent, but not more lenient.
For determining the number of absences for a class, three tardies equal one absence per semester per class.
Students who have received an in school suspension or out of school suspension must take their finals.
Please take note of your child's absences. If there are any excused appointment notes we are missing, notes must be handed in by Friday, May 15th to be considered. Slips will be handed out on Monday, May 18th so families know which finals their students need to take.
On the last day of school, lunch will be grab and go for those students who want to take a lunch. Our dismissal time is 11:33. Buses will be here shortly after dismissal.

Shoutout to all these wonderful musicians! You may have seen us practicing in the streets the last couple of weeks in preparation for Williston Band Day. It all paid off because these bandsters absolutely crushed it today! One of our bass drummers, Raegan Ostdahl, even got scouted and was asked if she was interested in partaking in a drumline camp next year. I couldn’t be any more proud of what this group has accomplished this year!

Stanley Schools are coming together to make a difference for children in foster care in our community and surrounding areas. In partnership with Mountrail-McKenzie Human Services Zone, we are collecting new toys, clothing, and essential items to help support youth who need it most. Every donation helps bring comfort, stability, and care to a child's life. Donations can be dropped off at the elementary or high school. Mr. Hellman’s 4th grade had been working on financial literacy in math. The class has been learning about needs vs wants, saving money, budgeting money, using a checkbook and debit card and other important financial life skills.
Today the class got to make and decorate their very own checkbook for use in the classroom. Huge shout out to BNC for donating the checkbook registers!

Congratulations to Stanley Speech on a successful State Speech weekend! Seven Speechies made it to State this year. Erika Littlefield placed 4th in Radio, Erika Littlefield and Lizzie Nelson received a Superior Mention in Serious Duo, and Ashley Ellis and Lizzie Nelson received a Superior Mention in Humorous Duo. Our Ornithology class had an unforgettable early morning adventure at the Lostwood National Wildlife Refuge! We left at 5:30 AM to make sure we were quietly settled into the blind—minimizing disturbance and maximizing our chance to witness one of nature’s most incredible displays.
Students observed a Sharp-tailed Grouse lek in full swing, watching males “roomba-ing” around the dance floor before bursting into energetic displays when a female arrived. (Fun fact: these springtime dances are part of a courtship ritual where males compete to attract mates!)
We were also entertained by a mischievous Common Raven who kept things interesting by flushing the lek—but the determined grouse always made their way back to continue the show!
Once the cold set in, we warmed up with a drive to Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge, where students added an impressive 35 bird species to our class checklist.
It was truly a fantastic day of learning, observation, and appreciation for North Dakota’s incredible wildlife. A big thank you to Seth Owens from Pheasants Forever and Lostwood biologist Marissa Haase for joining us and sharing their expertise!
