Today Mr. Hellman's Social Studies classes got to sample hardtack. This simple flour and water biscuit was one of the worst foods endured by a civil war soldier. They were known to break soldier's teeth!

Recently, Stanley Junior High teachers and administration met to discuss behaviors that are disruptive to the learning environment. Behaviors in school are escalating, and we are making a concerted effort to keep our school safe. We need our classrooms to be a productive place for the education of all students. Specifically, we have seen an increase in students using racial slurs, being disrespectful to teachers and peers, using unkind words, blurting out in class, coming unprepared for class, and being tardy. We are focusing even more attention on eliminating these behaviors by teaching students how to respect one another, solve problems together, be prepared for class, and not allowing their behaviors to impact the learning of others. If a student earns 2 or more log entries for any of the behaviors mentioned above, a call will go home. Students will be given a behavior chart to monitor their behaviors in class. The teacher will fill out a rating scale for their behavior that hour. Students utilizing a behavior chart will spend their lunch time working with administration and the school counselor to learn how their behavior is impacting the learning environment and what they need to do to improve their interaction with others. This time will be called Lunch Academy. Students can earn their way out of the Lunch Academy by demonstrating positive behavior in class. If behaviors reoccur, a parent meeting will be called. We ask that you speak with your children about classroom and school expectations. We thank you for you cooperation and support as we work to make our school productive and safe for all.

3rd graders in Mrs. Stafslien’s Social Studies classes completed a unit learning all about Ellis Island, ancestors, immigration, and the Statue of Liberty! 🗽 The classes packed suitcases with what they would bring with them if they traveled to America for a new opportunity. They created postcards to send to the ones they left behind. They virtually toured Ellis Island and observed pennies made of copper and how to patina them. The Statue of Stafslien also made an appearance! 😁

Mrs. Drosdal ‘s & Ms. Albertson’s classes team up for an unforgettable project. The high school students were able to choose a first grade level reading book, and then they read their books to our first grade friends! The first graders then chose their favorite character in the book and made a drawing of the character. Students in the high school clothing design class then got to work by hand sewing and machine sewing the 1st graders character. High school and elementary school students were all overjoyed as the characters were presented, check out some of the finished characters!
