Mr. Hellman with his class
Mr. Hellman's Social Studies classes have been learning about the early settlement of North Dakota. We have learned about Bonanza farms, the impact of the railroad on early settlement, how ND helped Teddy Roosevelt become president and even how the territorial capital was moved (its a VERY interesting story). The state put out online books that the class is using to learn about our history. Check out the book we are currently using here: https://www.ndstudies.gov/gr4/early-settlement-north-dakota (the capital story is in section 4 a secret trick)

On Tuesday, December 6th, students in grades 1-3 had the opportunity to listen to North Dakota author and musician Jessie Veeder. Her presentation was sponsored by grants from the Minot Area Council of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Jessie read her book “Prairie Princess” and talked about the benefits of growing up in rural North Dakota. Then she led the students in singing “You are My Sunshine.” Finally, she treated the students to a rendition of her original song “Happy”. To learn more about Jessie Veeder and purchase her book or music, please checkout her website https://jessieveedermusic.com/.
